In 2018, Dr. Martinez began his beekeeping journey. Starting with just two hives, we now manage apiaries across Forsyth and Gwinnett counties in Georgia, USA.
In 2022, Dr. David Martinez founded Melabella. Beekeeping had long been on his bucket list. In January 2017, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulated antimicrobial use in honeybees. At that time, honeybees were classified as livestock, falling under veterinarians’ oversight. This presented the perfect opportunity for Dr. Martinez to pursue his dream. He combined his veterinarian skills with a passion for beekeeping to better serve both honeybees and the community.
By 2019, Dr. Martinez became a certified beekeeper in Georgia. Shortly thereafter, he earned certification in Honeybee Control and Removal (HBR). This certification allows him to safely extract and relocate honeybees from manmade structures, such as homes. In 2023, the Georgia Structural Pest Control Commission (SPCC) and the Department of Agriculture (GDA) set standards for honeybee removal and relocation. This service is offered under Easier Remodeling.
Melabella was created to provide high-quality, local raw honey and other bee-derived products while sharing a love for honeybees. Dr. Martinez hails from Valencia, Spain. The name Melabella combines two Valencian words: “mel” (honey) and “abella” (bee). We are committed to sustainable practices, producing seasonal varieties of pure, raw honey, along with other hive products like beeswax, pollen, and propolis.
