A bucket list wish
Melabella is a local honey company with apiaries around Forsyth and Gwinnett county in Georgia. Dr. David Martinez, a veterinarian, started his beekeeping journey in 2018. Beekeeping has always been one of those bucket list wishes. In January 2017, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a final ruling to regulate the use of antimicrobials in honeybees. At that time, the honeybees were classified as livestock and fell into the veterinarian’s purview. This was the perfect time for Dr. Martinez to fulfil a dream, becoming a beekeeper while putting his veterinarian skills into better serving the honeybee and the community.
